If you’re into EDM, it’s about time you know who Arty is. He’s a 22 year old Russian who–similar to Avicii and Alesso–is just as gifted in spinning as he is in producing. Two of his best tracks in the last year were “Around The World” and this remix of Dirty South’s “Walking Alone”.
He also had the honor of a playing his essential mix on Pete Tong’s weekly BBC Radio 1 show. Stream it and download from the link below.
Making a list of my favorite tracks of this year was as hard as Kim Jong Il’s cold dead corpse. It made me relive memories and meditate on my own odd musical taste. I was able to boil the criteria for this list into one simple formula–”replayability”. The longer I could play a song on repeat without getting sick of it, the higher it was in my rankings. I still haven’t gotten sick of any of the songs in my top 10, even after hundreds, maybe thousands of listens.
Without further ado, my favorite tracks of 2011:
1. M83 – “Midnight City”
This track showed up everywhere from Entourage and How To Make It In America to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It’s the catchiest pop song since MGMT’s “Time To Pretend”. If you have a chance to see Anthony Gonzalez live, it’s one hell of a dance party.
Also, the album art for this single as well as Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming couldn’t be more appropriate. M83 is the soundtrack to my dreams (and the synth in the Midnight City sounds like a mosquito).
